Types of General Fishing Licences
New Zealand offers ten different types of fishing licences. Here’s a brief overview of each:
Whole Season Licence
- Adult (18+): $153
- Junior (12-17): $31
- Child (under 12): Free (Licence still required)
- Valid from 1 October to 30 September. Exclusively for NZ resident anglers.
Family Licence
Pricing: $198
Includes a couple and up to 4 children or grandchildren under 18 on 1 October. Valid from 1 October to 30 September. Only for NZ resident anglers.
Local Area Adult Licence
Pricing: $122
For those who fish in one specified Fish & Game region. Valid from 1 October to 30 September. Exclusively for NZ resident anglers.
Loyal Senior Licence
Pricing: $130
For NZ anglers over 65 on 1 October who have held an Adult Whole Season Licence or Family Licence for the last five consecutive years. Valid from 1 October to 30 September.
One Day Licence
Adult: $24
Junior: $5
Valid for 24 hours from the user-selected start time. Only for NZ residents.
Short Break Adult Licence
Pricing: $55
For a three consecutive day fishing trip. The user selects the start time. Only for NZ resident anglers.
Long Break Adult Licence
Pricing: $107
For a nine consecutive day fishing trip. The user selects the start time. Only for NZ resident anglers.
Winter Adult Licence
Pricing: $92
For fishing from 1 April to 30 September. Only for NZ resident anglers.
Non-Resident Whole Season Licence
Adult (18+): $264
Junior (under 18): $50
Child (under 12): $50
Valid from 1 October to 30 September.
Non-Resident One Day Licence
